Hi, I'm Stephanie Roberts
A global communications executive with a rare perspective — as an American woman on assignment in Japan.

About Me

Hi, I’m Stephanie.
As the first Chief Communications Officer for Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems, I’m responsible for the company’s internal and external communications strategy. I report directly to the CEO and serve on the senior executive committee, leading a global team across internal and external communications, media relations, branding, crisis communications, social media, the company website, events and more. We bring the company’s vision to life by showcasing the innovation, dedication and impact behind everything we do.
What sets me apart? Nearly three years ago, I moved to Tokyo as the first expat ever sent to our headquarters — a rare and rewarding opportunity, especially as an American woman. Living and working in a different culture has fundamentally shaped how I lead, adapt and communicate with empathy, flexibility and clarity. I also work with teams across the Americas, China, Southeast Asia, EMEA and Australia, giving me a truly global perspective.
I’m driven by two things: the power of storytelling — whether that means celebrating employees or making complex topics easy to understand — and my love of exploring different cultures. I’ve traveled to more than 30 countries and am always looking for my next adventure.
I hold a Master of Science in Communications from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from DePaul University.
Outside of work, you’ll find me running, hiking, traveling and tracking down the best restaurants wherever I go.
I enjoy connecting with new people. Find me on LinkedIn, where I often share my perspective on communications and expat life with a community of more than 14,000 followers.
