UCLA Anderson MBA Students Visit Tokyo, Learn About Doing Business in Japan

As part of its International Business Residency (IBR) program, nearly 40 University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Business EMBA students visited Tokyo. The course, which typically takes place between students' first and second years, aims to provide EMBA students with knowledge of the business environment of another country.

As part of this program, students visited and heard presentations from leading companies, such as Nike, Dentsu, The New Otani, TeamLab Planets, and more. They also heard from Stephanie Roberts and Charlie Takeuchi, CEO of Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Co., Ltd.

Takeuchi discussed the Social Innovation Business at Hitachi and more and an example of a playbook acquisition. Roberts then spoke extensively about her experiences as an expat and the cultural and workplace differences between living and working in the U.S. and Japan. The presentation incited a lively discussion.

After the presentation, one student commented, "It was a great opportunity to learn from Stephanie about her first-hand experience as a senior female leader working in a Japanese company. We discussed cultural differences and organizational norms, and we also learned about a Hitachi success story. Thanks to Charlie and Stephanie for such an insightful meeting."

UCLA Anderson consistently ranks as a top business school in the U.S.
